The latest information on the overhaul of 45133
NOTE: A plan for completion of the final overhaul tasks has been formulated, with a target for the locomotive to move under its own power in 2026. However, this is very much a target date and is dependent on sufficient volunteer hours being available, along with continued financial support. It is also dependent on no major setbacks being encountered during the re-commissioning stages.
Update April 2026: Work has been continuing on lots of smaller finishing jobs, including repainting of bufferbeam fittings, fitting of seals to doors and nose end grilles and fixing of final bolts to the radiator grilles. Pioneer Diesels Ltd. returned on 12th April to remove the cylinder head that was blowing. The ring that seals the joint was found to be distorted and a replacement fitted. Following refitting of the head, the coolant was pumped back in and the loco moved outside for the engine to be started. Temperatures and pressures were as expected, so when the next opportunity arises, the engine will be run up to normal coolant temperature. Members Working Days
Working days on 45133 take place mainly on Sundays throughout the year, with some weekdays also arranged. Members all work together with numerous tasks on the loco. No specific skills are needed, just enthusiasm….we’ll guide you through the various work needed.
What’s in it for you? You’ll be helping to get 45133 back in service and you’ll get to learn new skills/apply existing ones along with meeting the friendly bunch who work in the diesel shed at weekends.
