The Society was formed in 1986 to preserve an example of the British Railways designed Class 45/1 locomotive. No.45133 was purchased in 1990 and regularly operates at the Midland Railway Butterley, as well as at other heritage railways around the UK. The Society became a Registered Charity (No.1168290) in 2016.
