OO Gauge Peak models
Bachmann have yet to produce an accurate OO gauge model of a Class 45/1. The 45/1s that have been produced were let down by the presence of steam heat details on the roof and plated over body side steps. All these features, correct for a 45/0, were removed when the locos were ETH fitted. It is only recently that models have been offered with flush front ends and marker lights, but again these are 45/0s. However, with a few evenings work, it is possible to convert a standard Bachmann model into a fairly accurate representation of a 45/1. Click here to read an article on how to do it.
Heljan announced in May 2019 that they were producing Class 45 models in OO gauge, including an accurate version of the Class 45/1, and these finally reached the shops in October 2022. The range included a model of 45133 (without headlights), shown below (Cat. No.45402). Also in the range were headlight fitted 45118 with orange cantrail stripe and 45106 in Tinsley Green. Unnumbered versions (with and without headlights) were also offered by Hattons Models and a weathered limited edition of 45110 ‘Medusa’ produced by Kernow Model Centre. Prices started at around £160. All the models feature working lights and highly detailed bogies and cab interiors. Sales were strong and Heljan soon announced further new releases for 2024, including models of 45104 with Tinsley stripes and 45144 with black roof.
A review of the Heljan model of 45133 and details of how to fit working high intensity headlights can be found in the article here.
